It's a record

SGT PETTER - alias Petter Folkedal – is a brilliant singer/songwriter from the vital music scene in Bergen, Norway. He operates in the area of prairie-pop/country music - without the hat. With his distinctive voice and his urban country songs, Sgt Petter is one of the most interesting new acts in Norway at the moment.

In March 2002, Sgt Petter beat 500 competitors to top a listeners’ poll of unsigned artists on Norway’s biggest alternative radio station P3. He didn’t stay unsigned for long, recording his debut album “It’s a Record“ in summer 2002 for New Records - Bergen’s freshest label run and owned by record producers “The Sensible Twins“ aka HP Gundersen and Kato Ådland.

When “It’s a Record” was released on January 27, made the whole Norwegian music press roll their dice to high numbers and the singles - “City of Greens”, “Perfection” and “How about 25” - got good airplay. Sgt Petter has also appeared on all the major music shows on Norwegian TV. Norwegian Television also did a documentary portrait of him working in the Sensible Twins Gjøa Studio in Bergen in a programme broadcast in an NRK music special “Lydverket“.

With his reputation growing, Sgt Petter and his five-piece band have been invited to play the major Scandinavian festivals this summer: Øyafestivalen and Quart festivalen in Norway, Roskilde in Denmark and Peace and Love in Sweden. He will also perform songs from “It’s a Record” with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in August. He will also start recording on new material for an EP release in late autumn and a new album release in spring 2004.

It’s a Record” will be released in Benelux through Excelsior Recordings on August 18. Sgt Petter is also scheduled to do live appearances in Benelux countries this autumn.
